5 Reasons To Be A Self Employed Licensed Massage Therapist
Anyone who knows me, knows I love what I do for a living. I have been doing massage for over 22 years and esthetics for over 17 years. This career path is a passion project for me and not just a job. Don’t get me wrong, I have had my ups and downs with it and I have not always enjoyed every choice I have made on where I have taken up employment to provide my spa services but all in all it is a very satisfying and amazing career.
With my vast experiences I have realized that as a service provider, there are many benefits to being self-employed rather than working for a spa or a clinic. I have worked for a variety of employers and there is no doubt that being solo spa provider was the highlight. Here are five of my top reasons why:
Flexibility & Personal Freedom: As a self-employed massage therapist, you have the flexibility and freedom to set your own hours and work around your personal schedule. Create a schedule that is suited to balance your responsibilities and your personal life. This means you can take time off when you need to and work as much or as little as you want or need to. Making time to balance your personal life with your financial needs and your business life is something many people never have the opportunity to consider but as a spa service provider, it is one that you can consider.
Higher earning potential: Obviously when you work for yourself, you have the potential to earn more money than you would working for someone else. No one to take a cut from what you charge. You can set your own rates, create your own service menu and allow yourself to create an income for yourself that benefits you and your business. In addition, the opportunity to work more when you need to take a vacation or have extra bills you need to cover is an advantage.
Control over your business: When you are a solo practitioner, you have complete control over your business. You make the plans and make the immediate decisions in the interest of further sustaining or growing your business. You get to decide how to market yourself, what services to offer, how to handle the good the bad and the ugly that comes with running your business.
More opportunities for growth: When you work for yourself, you have more opportunities for growth and development. You can take courses to improve your skills, attend conferences to network with other professionals, and expand your services to keep up with trends in the industry. You can change things up and explore new things with your skills and services as needed by your clients. The sky is the limit with possibilities.
Personal satisfaction: Running your own business can be incredibly rewarding. You get to work with clients one-on-one, create relationships and help them improve their health and well-being. The confidence that you will build within yourself when you do something you are passionately interested in creates a peace of mind. The satisfaction of being your own boss and building something from scratch can be incredibly fulfilling.
